Auditor

Nina Chen

Hi! My name is Nina, I’ve been on the Mathsoc Committee for three years. This is society means a lot to me. As auditor, I plan on organising our Fresher’s week and Career’s fair over summer, so we can enjoy those events in September. I would do my best to host social events like our annual Donut Reception, Maths-Physoc Ball, and Countdown, and more, as well as increasing the amount of academic talks next year. I love Mathsoc, and I would really like to give back to the society, and I hope you vote for me!

John Marley

With two years experience serving on the committee, including one year as secretary, I believe I am more than capable of being auditor. I have a great love of the society and the events we hold, and I am determined to ensure that, should I be elected, the society will hold some fantastic events next year, to make up for the fallow year we’ve had to have.

Secretary

Philip Kruger

I have been a Mathsoc member for the last 3 years and a Committee member for the last 2. I have held the positions of SF rep and PRO. This year I have played a very large part in organizing many events particularly the Freshers week Quiz and the Society Olympics. I have also made a Poster for the E-mail and banner for the FB event every week.
(Some of my PRO greatest hits) . I want to continue to play a key role in Mathsoc for my last year of college and thus want to be the secretary.

Librarian

Nina Chen

Ryan McGowan

I have a background in Art and would love to apply this to making posters for events in order to increase interest in Mathsoc. Also think it’d be good to develop the society’s social media presence. I’d also like to generally get more involved in the society as a whole.

Quizmaster

Sean Fitzgerald

Hi everyone! My name is Sean Fitzgerald and for those who don’t know me I’m currently a second year maths student and running for the position of quizmaster.
I have some experience (as well as a lot of interest) in problem-solving and I really hope that if I am chosen to be quizmaster I can join the new committee in trying to reintroduce in-person events over the next year. We have missed out on a lot over the past year, including on-campus problem-solving sessions and the intervarsities that were meant to take place, so hopefully I can be of some help in getting these running again. I think it would be really nice to be able to meet up with and compete against like-minded students from other colleges again, as this is something many of us have missed over the past year or two.
Thank you!

Lucy Fitzsimmons

Hi! I’m Lucy and I’m a JS Chemical Sciences student. I’ve been a member of Mathsoc for the last two years, and I’m really interested in getting more involved with the society next year. I love maths, and unfortunately we don’t get to use a lot of it in my course from third year on. In first and second year it made up 1/3 of my modules so it has felt very strange not to be using the mathsy part of my brain! I am good at organisation and recruitment, as SciTech editor of Trinity News a large part of my role is recruiting new writers and keeping on track of deadlines and making sure my team runs smoothly. I think both of these skills would transfer really well to the role of Sophister Rep for Mathsoc. I have also, alongside my wonderful deputy editor Nina Chen, made a sincere effort to increase our coverage of maths within our SciTech section. I recently was lucky enough to interview Liam for a story we covered on Mathsoc’s Pi day talk and the society as a whole. Doing the article and the research for it really gave me a feel for the Mathsoc committee and its ethos and priorities, and drove home to me how much I want to get involved next year. I attended a lot of Mathsoc events in person in 2019/2020 as a member, but unfortunately have struggled to get to them this year as I have been working weekday evenings. I did manage to get to a couple of quizzes at the start of first semester which I really enjoyed. I would love if you would consider me for this position, and would give it my all next year if elected.

Ronan Murphy

Mathsoc events are very enjoyable and a great opportunity for social interaction; they deserve a huge turnout. If elected, I’ll do my utmost to encourage as many people as possible to participate, in particular trying to attract more JS Maths students, and contribute what I can towards events.
